When you want to go sightseeing before check-in, being able to leave your luggage at the hotel is extremely convenient.

When leaving luggage at the hotel front desk, you need to use polite Swedish expressions to make your request or confirm the pickup time.

In this article, I introduce useful Swedish phrases that help you leave your luggage smoothly at the hotel reception, along with example dialogues and grammatical points.

Absolut, det går bra. Vi förvarar väskorna i bagagerummet.
(Of course, no problem. We will store your luggage in the baggage room.)

Ja, ditt namn räcker.
(Yes, just your name is sufficient.)

1. Requesting to Leave Your Luggage

When you wish to leave your luggage at the hotel, you first need to communicate that request to the staff at the reception.

  • Skulle jag kunna lämna mitt bagage här en stund?
(Would it be possible for me to leave my luggage here for a while?)

The phrase “skulle jag kunna …?” is a very polite way to ask for something.

To say “leave your luggage,” Swedish uses the expression “lämna bagage.

2. Confirming the Pickup Time

Hotel staff will often ask when you plan to pick up your luggage, as this helps them manage stored items.

  • När vill du hämta det?
(When would you like to pick it up?)

A natural way for you to answer is:

  • Jag kommer tillbaka runt klockan tre.
(I will come back around three o’clock.)

By using “runt” (around), you can indicate an approximate time.

If you wish to express a strict time, you can say:

  • klockan exakt tre
    (exactly at three)
  • senast klockan tre
     (by three at the latest)

3. Understanding Where Your Luggage Will Be Stored

Hotel staff may explain where your luggage will be kept.

  • Vi förvarar väskorna i bagagerummet.
(We store the luggage in the baggage room.)

The verb “förvarar” means “to store,” and “bagagerummet” refers to “the luggage storage room.”

Common and appropriate responses for you include:

  • Perfekt, tack!
    (Perfect, thank you.)
  • Okej, det låter bra.
    (Alright, that sounds good.)

4. Providing Your Name or Room Number

For security reasons, hotels may ask you for personal information when storing your luggage.

  • Behöver ni mitt namn eller rumsnummer?
(Do you need my name or room number?)

Possible reply from staff:

  • Ditt namn räcker.
    (Just your name is sufficient.)

The verb “räcker” (is enough) is a useful everyday expression that you can apply in many situations.

Other information you may be asked to provide includes:

  • rumsnummer: room number
  • efternamn: last name
  • ID-kort: ID card
